Established in September 2015, the Raymond W. Cannon Education Foundation serves as the charitable arm of the Gamma Xi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. From the start, the Foundation has focused on empowering African-American youth by investing in scholarship and community-based educational initiatives.
Its mission is to strengthen social, educational, and community values to expand opportunities for historically underserved youth. By stewarding charitable resources, the Foundation promotes academic achievement, personal growth, and leadership development.
Working in partnership with Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., whose national mission is to develop leaders, promote brotherhood and academic excellence, and advocate for communities, the Gamma Xi Lambda Chapter brings this vision to life locally. Through mentoring, civic engagement, and educational programming, the Chapter and Foundation together support the Minneapolis–Saint Paul community.
Their joint efforts sustain impactful initiatives such as:
- Go-to-High School, Go-to-College
- Project Alpha
- A Voteless People is a Hopeless People
- Leadership Development Institutes (LDIs)
- Raymond W. Cannon Scholarships for local high school students
